Lynchburg is home to Liberty University which is the largest evangelical Christian University in The nation and the largest private university in Virginia. Liberty is home to 16,000 residential students on campus and over 124,000 online students.

Lynchburg is also home to University of Lynchburg, Randolph College, Central Virginia Community College, Virgina University at Lynchburg and Sweetbriar College is nearby.
